U.S. defense watchdog warns of ISIS “insurgency”

ISIS has taken responsibility for recent attacks in Iraq and Syria, raising concerns the group is regaining strength. A Department of Defense inspector general report from earlier this month is warning of ISIS "insurgency." Path to net zero tougher without major investment, climate watchdog warns

Britain cannot reach its net zero goals without a significant investment in schemes to capture carbon and store it under the ground.

That’s the warning from the government’s climate watchdog, which told Sky News there’s no easy path to eliminate emissions if carbon capture technology doesn’t succeed.

Coroners must improve communication, transparency, says Ontario watchdog

The Death Investigation Oversight Council, charged with overseeing Ontario’s chief coroner, has issued a non-binding recommendation for families to be advised when there’s a change in the coroner leading a death investigation. The recommendation was prompted by a father’s search for answers after the 2017 death of his son in Thunder Bay, Ont.

Police should give violence against women same priority as terrorism, says watchdog

The report by Her Majesty’s Inspectors of Constabulary, Fire and Rescue Services says there is an epidemic of violence against women and girls, yet a "staggering" variation in how cases are handled by police forces across the country.

It calls for "fundamental, cross-system change", and found that three-quarters of domestic abuse cases were "closed early" without a suspect being charged.

They concluded police should treat violence by men against women and girls with the same urgency as terrorism.
