Rehab for hundreds of thousands of hardcore drugs users, and tackling the criminal gangs who peddle illegal narcotics and "make hell of people’s lives".

That includes a £780 million investment in drug treatment and recovery services, part of a three billion pound total spend over the next three years.

New South Wales has recorded its lowest daily number of COVID-19 infections in two months. The Australian state reported 360 new cases and five deaths on Oct 12. The drop comes a day after businesses across Sydney reopened, following months of lockdown. Meanwhile, the state of Victoria is looking to recruit up to 1,000 healthcare workers from overseas to ease pressure on its hospital system. Case numbers have declined for the third day in a row, but health officials remain cautious as there are over 1,450 new infections.
