Former Malaysian PM Najib Razak appeals corruption conviction in 1MDB scandal

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has appeared in court at the start of an appeal over his conviction on corruption charges linked to the multi-billion dollar 1MDB scandal. In 2020, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined $50 million. Defence lawyers are now expected to argue that Mr Najib failed to receive a fair and just trial. The former premier has submitted 307 grounds in his petition of appeal on why he should be cleared of the charges. The court of appeal has given defence lawyers until Thursday to wrap up their submission.
