COVID-19: New Zealand mulls vaccination passports, wants 90% of people inoculated

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern wants to make the country a world leader in COVID-19 vaccinations. She said inoculating 90 per cent of the country’s eligible population is key to easing restrictions and would do away with the need for lockdowns. So far, about 40 per cent of the population has been given both doses of a vaccine.

BREAKING: Wales makes vaccine passports mandatory for nightclubs & large events

Wales will make a Covid pass mandatory for ‘high-risk’ venues from next month.

First Minister Mark Drakeford said the requirement to show an NHS Covid Pass will come into force from 11 October – it will mean all over-18s will need to have one to enter a football stadium, concert or nightclub.

Mr Drakeford also advised the country to work from home if possible.

1. President Joe Biden will announce new COVID-19 measures ahead of a U.N. General Assembly, the U.S. surgeon general said.
2. North Korea tested its new long-range cruise missile, state media said. Analysts say the weapon has possible nuclear capability.
3. U.S. Senator Joe Manchin asked for more time for a slimmer budget bill, saying he could support a smaller $1.5 trillion bill.
4. The UK has scrapped plans for vaccine passports. Prime Minister Boris Johnson will set out plans on Tuesday to manage the COVID-19 pandemic in the winter months.
5. The Taliban says women can study at universities, but that the classes must be segregated by gender. The Islamic dress code will be mandatory.
