Omicron variant shows need for global accord on pandemics, says WHO chief

The World Health Organisation has urged global co-operation on vaccines to avoid further COVID mutations evolving and spreading.

WHO’s Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that while many uncertainties remain about the Omicron variant, its emergence shows the pandemic is clearly not over yet.

An app closely monitored the population, enabling authorities to track infection chains. The vaccination campaign also quickly picked up speed. Now over 40 million people in South Korea have received at least one jab. That means over 80 percent of the population is fully or partially immunised among the highest vaccination rates in the world. Is South Korea a role model for the world?
