Hundreds of dredging rafts operated by illegal miners have gathered in a gold rush on the Madeira River, a major tributary of the Amazon, floating hundreds of miles as state and federal authorities dispute who is responsible for stopping them.

All 39 miners now out of Totten Mine in Sudbury, Ont.

The 39 miners who had been trapped underground at the Totten Mine near Sudbury, Ont., have now all safely made it to the surface. The workers became trapped on Sunday when a scoop bucket detached and blocked the mine shaft.
