Eddie Mathis on “Godfather” Label, DC Drug War, Getting 24 Years, Jail Rapes (Full Interview)

In this VladTV exclusive, Eddie Mathis — the man once referred to as the godfather of the DC drug trade — detailed his life story. Growing up in a 12-person household during the 1950s and 1960s, Mathis started having run-ins with the law by the age of nine. He described stabbing a bully when he was 11 and getting involved in petty crimes throughout his teens. Mathis told tales of being in youth and adult correctional facilities before explaining how he got into dealing heroin. He also described an incident where he was sentenced to 20 years to life over a murder charge that he eventually got reversed. Mathis described how crack impacted DC and the drug trade, and spoke about serving about 20 years after catching a conspiracy charge. To hear more, check out the above interview.

In the final clip, Eddie Mathis reflected on his criminal past and admitted he didn’t foresee the destruction that drug dealing would have on various communities. Although he’s mentored the younger generation, he acknowledged that there will always be another dealer or crew that will fulfill the spot he left. Mathis also added that he’s never witnessed a drug dealer experience a happy ending after a life of crime. In the latest clip, Eddie Mathis described being sentenced to 24 years in prison after he was convicted of conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine and heroin. He explained that turned down the prosecution’s 30-year offer before taking the case to trial where he received less time. However, his spirits were not as high as during previous sentences. After serving nearly 20 years of his sentence, Mathis described adjusting to civilian life and noted that this is the longest he’s gone without ending up behind bars.

In the latest clip, Eddie Mathis denied rumors that he worked with the owners of the furniture chain, Mathis Brothers. He also denied partnering with the Blackwell brothers to launch B&M Auto Shop. Mathis admitted to being friends with the various individuals but denied ever doing business with them or listing the companies as places of employment.

He also addressed the rumors of a beef with the Blackwell family, which reportedly led to the deaths of 20 people. Eddie denied there was any beef, or that the Blackwells had anything to do with his brother Larry being killed. He added that him and Michael Blackwell used to laugh about people saying they were beefing, and Eddie went on to address being pulled over while wearing a bulletproof vest.

With the DEA following him, there was an incident where Moxie pulled a gun on Mathis after he was lead to believe Mathis owed him money. After the misunderstanding was resolved, Moxie was killed weeks later and Mathis was blamed for his death. During his trial, prosecutors labeled Mathis "the godfather of the DC drug trade."

After a stint of selling in Buffalo and making money, Eddie made his way back to D.C., where he said he was bringing in $4-5 million a month. He also spoke about cops not being a huge problem at the time, and Eddie went on to detail the extravagant purchases he was making at the time.
