Around 900,000 thousand Filipino workers have resumed work as the country eases restrictions over improving COVID-19 metrics, according to Sec. Silvestre Bello III of the Department of Labor and Employment.

Improvements to anti-violence measures to be made over next 3 years

Recommendations by the task force on family violence have been accepted in principle by the Government and they will be rolled out over the next three years. Among the first to be implemented are enhancements to awareness campaigns to tackle family violence and marriage preparation courses.

Singapore’s rainfall forecasting capability will be beefed up by 1Q2022. The country was hit by intense rainfall in August. Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu said with climate change, Singapore must prepare for more flash floods and extreme weather scenarios. While the country has invested billions of dollars on drainage works, Ms Fu says it’s impractical to expand all of its drains. However, she added that the new technology will help PUB better predict and respond to floods. More timely public alerts can be issued to locations where heavy rainfall is expected.

Jurong Fishery Port: Improvements on transferring fish, payments being looked at, says Desmond Tan

Improvements to processes are being examined at Jurong Fishery Port. The port has reopened with beefed-up measures following a two-week closure because of the coronavirus. Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Desmond Tan told CNA938 that changes could include the way fish are transferred from boats, as well as new payment methods.
