South Korea is steering the middle course as COVID-19 puts a strain on healthcare, and concerns grow over the new Omicron variant. Reopening plans have been suspended, but the government has made it clear that there will be no return tougher measures The authorities said they will be accelerating the rollout of booster shots. Seoul had initially planned to move into the second phase of easing in December, but the worsening situation has derailed that strategy, with daily cases still hovering around 4,000.
