36-year-old start-up founder elected to lead South Korea’s biggest opposition party

South Korea’s main opposition party has elected a 36-year-old start-up founder as its new leader. Mr Lee Jun-seok’s victory sets him up to steer the conservative party ahead of the 2022 presidential election. Mr Lee has no experience as a lawmaker, but managed to beat the People Power Party’s biggest heavyweights. Experts said it’s a sign younger voters want drastic reform in the party, following major corruption scandals. President Moon Jae-in has called Mr Lee’s victory "a sign of change". Mr Lee is too young to run for the presidency as candidates must be at least 40 years old.
