New innovative biography follows the life and times of James Bruce and his secret mission to Africa

OXFORD, England (PRWEB) January 14, 2020
Her indignation concerning slavery and racism, meshed with an admiration for James Bruce and a newfound respect for the land of Ethiopia, led author Jane Aptekar Reeve to pen “Plotting to stop the British slave trade” (published by AuthorHouse UK). This book is an innovative biography about an adventurous, game-changing traveler in Africa during the West’s “Enlightenment” period (when the American and French Revolutions occurred).
James Bruce was not what he seemed to be. The author confirms this through a historical and factual account revealing that Bruce was actually an espionage agent working with a clique of powerful, mostly British, persons whose secret agenda was: to eradicate slaving.
“In his own day, Bruce’s book was laughed at and lampooned because many readers thought it silly to write, or read, a serious book about Africa — especially a book expressing respect for African people, history and culture,” Reeve states. “[His] actual life and work [though] differ from the accounts in previous writings about him, as I have slowly discovered.”
“Plotting to stop the British slave trade” brings to light Bruce’s subversive mission to investigate slave trafficking across the Mediterranean and Red Sea as well as the Atlantic in order to support his friends’ drive to destroy the principal source of their own country’s wealth. This was achieved in 1807. Like Bruce himself, the author addresses neglected aspects of the ancient habit of slavery and the related abuse of — particularly — women. Furthermore, she also tackles several other subjects concerning history, culture, religion, politics and war.
Reeve believes that modern readers will be glad following her detection of the truth about James Bruce, the science-minded traveler who was ahead of his time in every way. She also hopes for them to be encouraged by the success of humans’ ongoing drive, to this point in time, to make life more livable for everyone. About the AuthorJane Aptekar Reeve was born in Ayrshire in Scotland in 1935. Her father was an officer in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. She grew up partly in India but, from the age of 10, was mostly raised by her grandparents in Scotland and in a boarding school in England. She liked to read and also was lucky. She was awarded a scholarship (an “Exhibition”) to St. Hilda’s College in Oxford, where she studied English literature and language. She went on to gain a Fulbright scholarship at Indiana University to study American literature. There, she met her husband Bernard Aptekar, a New York artist. After her career as a teacher, Reeve became an editor with the United Nations until she took early retirement. Then, she settled in Oxford and used their libraries to write her book.

Author Fred E. Farmer's New Book 'The 4 of Hearts' is an Exciting Story That Follows the Main Characters Into a Strange and New Galaxy

Recent release “The 4 of Hearts” from Newman Springs Publishing author Fred E. Farmer is a thrilling and unique tale that holds hidden meanings in store for readers to uncover as the story progresses.
Press Release – updated: Dec 18, 2019 06:00 EST

RUNNEMEDE, N.J., December 18, 2019 (Newswire.com) – Fred E. Farmer has completed his new book “The 4 of Hearts”: a gripping and potent tale that offers more than a science fiction story. Through the daring trials that the characters endure, they grow bonds that remind readers of the importance of friendship and family.
Published by Newman Springs Publishing, Fred E. Farmer’s adventurous tale is the story of how the last known survivors of four sets of young sibling beings from a doomed planet were separated by foul means by the evil antics of a maniacal, intergalactic warlord and his messed up and backstabbing crew, as one set of four ended up on Earth and the other set of four were left to find their lost surviving siblings out somewhere in the vast reaches of space.
In a 2,000-year span, the two groups grew from acquaintances to a family as they learned that a family was stronger than an individual or just a team. The story goes from their past to the present as they figure out how to survive in their new settings until the two families reunite after two thousand years apart as they join forces to protect Earth and the universe from the same evil that has destroyed their homeworld.
Readers will learn why these beings are considered “the most dangerous beings in the universe,” and it’s not the fact that they are evil, which they are not; it’s because evil knows that these are not the ones to mess with! And above that, readers will learn what a Heart is, and it has nothing to do with expressing love for someone or the main artery inside; it’s an institution that works to protect others from any and all forms of evil.
Readers who wish to experience this mesmerizing work can purchase “The 4 of Hearts” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iBooks Store, Amazon, or Barnes & Noble. For additional information or media inquiries, contact Newman Springs Publishing at 732-243-8512.

‘The Celtiberian’s Tale’ follows one boy’s reluctant participation in Hannibal’s War

TUCKERTON, N.J. (PRWEB) December 17, 2019
A youth named Allucius is separated from his home and the girl he loves, becoming a reluctant witness to the first eight years of the Second Punic War, also known as Hannibal’s War in M. J. Kurzrok’s new historical novel “The Celtiberian’s Tale” (published by Archway Publishing).

Possessing a beautiful mind, a gift with languages, and strong character, he became Hannibal’s messenger and confidant, accompanying him over the Alps and through the first eight years of Rome’s Second Punic War.
“‘The Celtiberian’s Tale’ will introduce the reader to the men and women who lived in an epic time and shaped the course of history. The story will explore such questions as how did Hannibal recruit and hold together an army of mercenaries from different countries, march them over a thousand miles from their homes, climb the Alps losing almost half of his men, endure the Etrurian swamp, and face a formidable Roman army almost twice its size,” Kurzrok explains. “This is a love story, a coming of age story, and a story of devotion set to the backdrop of momentous times.”
