COVID-19: Hong Kong’s hamster cull sparks fear of owners abandoning pets

There is a growing outcry in Hong Kong over hamsters. The government’s decision to cull 2,000 of the rodents due to COVID-19 concerns has been met with a backlash. Animal welfare groups are urging people not to panic or abandon their pets. Thousands of people are also volunteering to adopt any unwanted hamsters. Dr Bharat Pankhania, Senior Clinical Lecturer at the College of Medicine and Health at the University of Exeter, shared his thoughts on this issue.
