The nonprofit will launch their first ever Vets Vote initiative in tandem to the Legacy of Service Campaign, where veteran leaders will promote civic engagement through nonpartisan voter registration drives at select service projects taking part in the campaign.

NEW YORK (PRWEB) January 16, 2020
Throughout the month of January over 500 veteran volunteers will lead and support service efforts across the country to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The veterans are volunteers with The Mission Continues, a nonprofit organization that empowers veterans to continue their service and empowers communities with veteran talent, skills and preparedness to generate visible impact.
From January 13-27th, The Mission Continues will build a #LegacyOfService (http://www.missioncontinues.org/mlk-day), further spreading the value of service to veterans and communities with over 34 veteran-led service projects across the country focused on building stronger communities and connecting veterans.
The community-based projects are in partnership with schools, public parks, youth organizations, homeless shelters, and more. Throughout the campaign, veterans, community leaders, and corporate partners will team up to build, restore, and connect with each other and the communities in which they serve.

To honor that legacy, we’re doing our part to promote and preserve this right, ensuring that the veterans and our volunteers in under-resourced communities are heard within our government,” said Mary Beth Bruggeman, U.S. Marine Corps veteran and president of The Mission Continues. “Our country is better and stronger when people, irrespective of political affiliation, engage in our democracy. Veterans have always led the way in civic engagement, and we’re empowering them to continue that leadership.”
The service projects will take place in many of the 56 cities where The Mission Continues operates including Atlanta, San Diego, Seattle, Pittsburgh, New York City and more. In Atlanta, volunteers will work to rebuild and restore athletic fields and outdoor learning spaces at Fulton Leadership Academy, while in Los Angeles, volunteers will engage in restoration and maintenance of National Parks.
