TPG Energy's Eric Stowe Named Chairman of the Ethics Committee for the Denver Association of Professional Landmen

Mr. Stowe, Senior Landman at mineral rights firm TPG Energy based in Denver, Colorado works at his computer.

When I saw that the Ethic’s Chair position was open, I was compelled to inquire. My role is to assist and support the association into the future while providing and upholding an ethical standard of behavior among its members.

DENVER (PRWEB) January 17, 2020
TPG Energy’s Eric L. Stowe, a 3rd generation Oil & Gas Professional and Landman, has been named Chairman of the Ethics Committee for the Denver Association of Professional Landmen (“DAPL”).
About Mr. Stowe
Eric began his career like all 3rd generation Landmen, working for his father. Both of his parents are in the industry and in his words, “the further my career gets down the dusty “ol’tract” the more I remember sitting around our family table and learning the lessons of the industry and what it means to call yourself a professional.”
After working in his father’s land-shop for a number of years in Wyoming and Colorado, Eric and his father agreed it was time for him to strike out on his own. Eric landed at Denver-Purple Land Management, an independent contracting land firm, in February of 2017. In early 2018, Mr. Stowe Denver-Purple Land Management to join TGP Energy, where he currently holds the title of “Senior Landman.”
Mr. Stowe credits his parents for instilling the belief in him about how important it is to be a part of, and even serve if possible, the associations that represent your role in the industry. In fact, Mr. Stowe’s father served the DAPL board and has held several positions in part years.
Per Mr. Stowe, “When I saw that the Ethic’s Chair position was open on the DAPL website, I was instantly compelled to inquire. My role is to assist and support the association into the future while providing and upholding an ethical standard of behavior among its’ members which is set forth by the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Landmen in today’s market. I find this role to be of the upmost importance as I truly believe that the future of this great industry relies on the leadership that it is given. To be a great leader one must exhibit the ethical standard he or she believes should be set in order to see the vision of this industry come to fruition. The land is what connects me to that standard as I have seen my family members give more to this industry than what we have taken in return, other than several honorable and respectable careers. I believe firmly in the future and need of the Oil and Gas industry, along with other minerals and yet to be discovered renewable energy sources and I dearly and most humbly want to be a part of it. These are the reasons I have chosen to serve DAPL in the said capacity of the Ethic’s Chair. I love being a Landman and at the end of the dusty “ol’tract”, when my story is written in full, I hope I can say with a full land-heart that I was a good one!”
About DAPL

At House Committee Hearing, SIA Shares How Effective and Responsible Use of Facial Recognition Makes the Nation Safer

“Above all, we believe all technology products, including facial recognition technology, must only be used for purposes that are lawful, ethical and non-discriminatory.” – Jake Parker, senior director of government relations, SIA

SILVER SPRING, Md. (PRWEB) January 15, 2020
The Security Industry Association (SIA), the leading trade association representing more than 1,000 companies and organizations developing and delivering security solutions, testified today before the House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Reform. Jake Parker, senior director of government relations at SIA, represented the association before the committee during the Facial Recognition Technology (Part III): Ensuring Commercial Transparency & Accuracy hearing. In addition to Parker, Daniel Castro from the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, Dr. Charles Romine from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Meredith Whittaker from New York University and Brenda Leong from the Future of Privacy Forum all testified.
Parker’s full written testimony can be found on SIA’s website, and highlights are provided below on specific high-interest topics. Watch the full hearing video here.
On the importance of using facial recognition responsibly:“Above all, we believe all technology products, including facial recognition technology, must only be used for purposes that are lawful, ethical and non-discriminatory. Specifically, we believe facial recognition makes our country safer and brings value to our everyday lives when used effectively and responsibly.”
On beneficial applications of facial recognition in commercial/private sector environments:“In the private sector, facial recognition has offered tremendous benefits, primarily through allowing individuals to securely, quickly and conveniently prove their identity to enter a venue, board a plane, perform online transactions and seamlessly access personalized experiences. In addition, facial recognition has enabled private entities to secure their property against individuals seeking to commit violence, theft or other harm.”
On the importance of transparency when applying facial recognition:“We believe transparency should be the foundation that governs the use of facial recognition technology, for both commercial and government use. It should be clear when and under what circumstances the technology is used as well as the processes and procedures governing the collection, processing, storage, use and transfer of related data.”
On how the industry is creating use principles:“Regulation specific to commercial use of facial recognition technology only makes sense in the context of a national data privacy policy that includes biometric information – the subject of a broader ongoing debate. In the meantime, industry can play a more active role in providing users with the tools they need to implement robust policies for responsible use. SIA and our members are working to do just that by developing a set of use principles for facial recognition technology.”
On the takeaways of the recent NIST report:“The most significant takeaway from the NIST report is that it confirms current facial recognition technology performs far better across racial groups than is widely reported.”
On the accuracy of facial recognition:“The accuracy of facial recognition is reaching that of automated fingerprint comparison, which is generally viewed as the gold standard for identification.”
About SIASIA is the leading trade association for global security solution providers, with over 1,000 innovative member companies representing thousands of security leaders and experts who shape the future of the security industry. SIA protects and advances its members’ interests by advocating pro-industry policies and legislation at the federal and state levels, creating open industry standards that enable integration, advancing industry professionalism through education and training, opening global market opportunities and collaborating with other like-minded organizations. As the premier sponsor of ISC Events expos and conferences, SIA ensures its members have access to top-level buyers and influencers, as well as unparalleled learning and network opportunities. SIA also enhances the position of its members in the security marketplace through SIA GovSummit, which brings together private industry with government decision makers, and Securing New Ground, the security industry’s top executive conference for peer-to-peer networking.

ZorroSign CEO Highlights Benefits of Blockchain in Testimony to House Committee Reviewing 2020 Election Security Legislation

If the goal is to ensure that our elections in 2020 are true, fair and honest, then recording each voter’s voting record on blockchain where the record cannot be altered is highly recommended.

WASHINGTON (PRWEB) January 14, 2020
Shamsh Hadi, CEO of ZorroSign, Inc. highlighted the benefits of blockchain in safeguarding United States elections in testimony he submitted to a U.S. House committee. “The thoughtful and intentional employment of blockchain within electronic voting systems in the U.S. would protect the fabric of our democracy and maintain confidence in the integrity of our elections,” noted Hadi in testimony submitted earlier this month to the U.S. House Committee on Administration. ZorroSign is a pioneer of real electronic signature and a patented document fraud and tampering detection system built on blockchain.
On January 9, 2020 the U.S. House Committee on Administration held a hearing on legislative proposals on 2020 election security. Mr. Hadi’s written testimony will be part of the committee’s official hearing record. The hearing was held as part of the committee’s effort to develop election security regulations. The hearing provided an opportunity for the panel to hear perspectives from voting system vendors and experts on ways to refine several legislative proposals that have been introduced in the Congress to create additional election security legislation.
“Throughout my career in the high-tech industry, and especially through my work as CEO of a technology company that lives and breathes data and security, I have come to learn that blockchain can and should be an essential component to any election security framework,” said Hadi in his testimony. Mr. Hadi pointed to a February 2019 paper on blockchain issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) that concluded that blockchain is “…an ideal candidate to record and secure data exchanges.”
Hadi noted that “blockchain is important because it has unique qualities that set it apart from other transaction database management systems. Specifically, blockchain is being used today in private, permissions-based decentralized systems that are secure, trusted and automated with standards that can now surpass bank grade security. Ultimately, blockchain technology helps make digital transactions more secure, faster and less expensive.”
Hadi recommended to the committee that any legislation setting national standards for electronic voting systems should include blockchain technology. According to Hadi, “the employment of blockchain technology in electronic voting system would be one of the most effective ways to lower voter fraud rates and create a tamper proof audit trail — thereby significantly safeguarding the integrity of the voting process. If voting systems across the country are going to go digital — and more and more jurisdictions are doing just that — then blockchain technology would be an effective way to help make voting transactions more secure, faster and less expensive. The employment of blockchain technology as a required feature of an electronic voting system would prevent the unauthorized view/review, re-distribution of voting records, ensure unbroken chain-of-custody and provide a clear audit trail for every voter in every election,” added Hadi.
“If the goal is to ensure that our elections in 2020 are true, fair and honest, then recording each voter’s voting record on blockchain where the record cannot be altered is highly recommended,” concluded Hadi.
