World ‘closer than ever before to avoiding climate chaos’, says John Kerry

John Kerry has said the United States took COP26 "seriously", following the Trump administration’s refusal to attend previous climate talks.

Speaking during a news conference, he added: "I really do believe that as a result of this decision… we are in fact, closer than we have ever been before to avoiding climate chaos."

He also said that having a commitment to "phase down coal" in the agreement set a precedent not seen before, but that Glasgow isn’t the end of the crisis.
