Video surveillance systems must be installed at constructions sites that violate no-work rule

Contractors will be required to install video surveillance systems at their construction sites from October 2022, if they violate no-work rules on Sundays and public holidays. The aim is to manage noise pollution. The changes are part of newly passed amendments to the Environmental Protection and Management Act. The no-work rule applies to sites located within 150m of a hospital or residential building. Parliament was told about 3% of worksites are caught for breaching it each year, and over 20% of this group would go on to repeat the offence.
