The Gender Balance: Shame, fear of retaliation among reasons for under-reporting of sex crimes

CNA’s special report, The Gender Balance, takes a look at issues confronting women. Sex crimes have been the subject of more than 9,000 police reports between 2017 and 2020. But that could just be the tip of the iceberg. Shame, the fear of retaliation and the victims’ belief that they brought this upon themselves are some reasons why sex crimes remain under-reported despite increased awareness.
