Sydney expects daily COVID-19 infections to peak at 2,000 as Australia ramps up vaccinations

Sydney — the epicentre of Australia’s biggest COVID-19 outbreak — is expected to see daily infections rise to a peak of 2,000 cases by next week. The authorities are trying to speed up vaccinations in order to ease lockdown rules. Around 500,000 of four million Pfizer vaccine doses have arrived in Sydney as part of a swap deal with Britain.
