A surprise thaw in relations on the Korean peninsula. North and South Korea have decided to restore cross-border communications. All inter-Korean hotlines were severed a year ago by Pyongyang. Leaders from both sides have agreed to improve ties. Since April 2021, South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un have been exchanging letters and agreed to restore mutual trust between the two Koreas as soon as possible.
