Six dead in violence at Beirut protest against port blast inquiry

At least six people have been killed in the Lebanese capital Beirut after gunmen opened fire on protesters.

The demonstration by the Shia Muslim groups Hezbollah and Amal were calling for the removal of the lead judge investigating last year’s blast in the city’s port, that killed 219 people.

Reports say Christian snipers fired into the crowd.

Members of Hezbollah claim inquiry judge is biased but the victims’ families support his work.
