Singapore needs to do more to help its research institutions maximise their innovations. Speaking at the A*STAR Scientific Conference, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat said researchers can work with companies to commercialise products. This will also help them expand into overseas markets quickly. New product development must be complemented with a business strategy for the innovation to scale up. Mr Heng added that Singapore’s approach is to invest in basic research and then translating it into real-world impact.
