Germany’s new Chancellor Olaf Scholz sworn in – What’s to expect? | DW News

Germany has a new Chancellor. Today, the Social Democrat Olaf Scholz took the oath of office and the reins of power from Angela Merkel. Her successor is promising Germany a ‘new beginning.’

The transfer of power was modest, but meaningful. There was little ceremonial pomp and circumstance on offer today. Instead, a generous showing of loyalty to the country’s basic law.
