COVID-19: Japan extends state of emergency in Tokyo and 18 other prefectures

Japan has extended its state of emergency as COVID-19 continues to put pressure on healthcare. Tokyo and 18 other prefectures will remain under the decree until the end of the month. Daily infection numbers have been slowing. But outgoing prime minister Yoshihide Suga said that the number of critically ill patients remains high. He has vowed to do his utmost until his last day in office.
