China orders almost 40 apps to rectify excessive collection of personal data

China has ordered almost 40 apps from big name companies, including Tencent and Ant Group, to rectify excessive collection of personal data. The measure is the latest move in the government’s crackdown on the misuse of data and unfair practices. Central bank governor Yi Gang has vowed to continue the clean-up. Separately, Hong Kong’s de-facto central bank is continuing its collaboration with the People’s Bank of China in the testing of the use of digital yuan in Hong Kong.
